Mumbai Roti Bank is a non-profit, food rescue organisation that bridges the gap between hunger and excess food. Started on 23rd December 2017 under the able mentorship of former Director General of Police, Maharashtra, Mr. D. Sivanandhan, we aim to eliminate hunger, malnutrition and food wastage, many meals at a time.
The way our NGO functions is simple. We pick up excess food from weddings, events, hotels, cafeterias, housing societies and deliver it to thousands of hungry people who live in slums or on the footpath. We also deliver daily meals to kids of Drona Foundation, Dharavi and the relatives of cancer patients at Tata Memorial Hospital. Other than that, we distribute freshly cooked food and raw grains to our regular beneficiaries. The NGO has a dedicated helpline where we can be reached and our dedicated vans pick up the excess food and redistribute it promptly, thus ensuring that the quality of the food remains intact.
Registered as a trust ‘Roti Foundation Mumbai’ in May 2018, the Mumbai Roti Bank initiative is driven by its visionaries and enthusiastic team who are all set to scale up the activities significantly.
We pick up food from anytime between 10 am to 9:30 pm. We do not collect food that was stored overnight.

From the Corporate World
It is heartening to see many renowned corporates aligning to our NGO and backing us to bring down the statistics of hungry people. We truly appreciate their support and it motivates us to do more.
The Gen Next
When the youth joins any movement, it no longer remains just of the present but becomes of the future too. With many reputed colleges and management institutes opening their doors to us, it gives us an opportunity to channelize the students’ desire to help people in need.
After being an NGO partner of college fests and our mentor, Mr. D. Sivanandhan addressing students regularly, it has given us an inside view of the students’ ideas, empathy and enthusiasm for our cause. Many college students have also joined us as volunteers and that is such a welcome move.
People We Serve
In our mission to eliminate hunger through redistribution of excess food, we have identified a few beneficiaries whom we serve on a regular basis. Like we believe, this is just the beginning for us; we would be glad to cover many more needy people as we go along.
